Sri Lanka's leg-spinner Wahindu Hasaranga has taken retirement from Test cricket to seek more opportunities in franchise cricket, Sri Lankan media reported.
Hasaranga, who will remain part of Sri Lanka's white-ball formats, played just four Tests for his country since making his debut in the longer format in 2020.
"We will accept his decision and are confident that Hasaranga will be a vital part of our white-ball program going forward," Ashley De Silva, CEO of SLC, said.
Hasaranga recently remained in Sri Lanka's Test plan but wasn't picked up in the final squad. He left his Major League Cricket (MLC) contract after being named among potential players for the Test squad.
Overall, Hasaranga played 44 first-class games, picking up 102 wickets. He also has three first-class centuries and 19 half-centuries.
Hasaranga has so far represented Sri Lanka in 48 ODIs and 58 T20Is. He will be a part of Sri Lankan team for the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup. The Asian event will be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka whereas World Cup is scheduled to played in India.
